December in the Christmas City

For nine months of the year my city is quiet and quaint. In the middle of October it all begins.

It started with a few mini trees zip-tied to a street light here and there.

Then a truck mounted a metal candle structure to the top of a local bridge.

The first house to set up the electric window candles set off a city-wide race.

And someone in my apartment complex let their Nutcracker fetish loose this year (make your own dirty joke with that phrase).

My whole city is sparkling, including the sparkle of traffic backed up behind holiday horse-drawn carriage rides. In December the little bookstore becomes a wonderland.

Downtown morphs into a cozy picturesque hideout.

And every tree is ripe for the decorating.

On my runs through downtown I get wide-eyed looks from strangers-how lovely, the locals are healthy! Living in a tourist destination is strange.
